creese Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 I can't believe I have never been asked this before. A Head has asked if there is a way to import Data Collection data into SIMS electronically. Maybe create and XML form in the style of a CTF file. Does anyone do this or have any ideas, apart from Learning Gateway.
matt40k Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 I thought about it, I've just never came up with a way of collecting the data in the first place that didn't result in me being issued by P45. Only way I thought was via the parent portal like SLG
LosOjos Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Without manipulating the DB directly, I don't think there is. I have written scripts to turn a CSV in to a CTF (useful when the LA send us our admissions in CSV format rather than the much more helpful ATF!) but while that's great for new students, it's useless for updating existing students as the CTF will not overwrite any existing data.
creese Posted November 19, 2013 Author Posted November 19, 2013 Thanks, SLG will do it. I will of course be telling the Head this.
PhilNeal Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 There are two ways. SLG has a data collection sheet for parents which schools can edit before importing. There is also an import from school web site option which I think is part of R&A bit might just be an extra.
matt40k Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Without manipulating the DB directly I'm sure you mean "Without using the SIMS Business Objects" Collecting the data is the hard bit - you could have it on your website as form to fill in, but how would you confirm it wasn't a student updating his address with his friends so he's parents don't get that detension letter!

I have to say, Data Collection is quite possibly my favourite part of SLG, it really does handle it beautifully. Of course there's still the risk that a child could login and change their details, but it doesn't automatically update SIMS, you have to verify it first, so we'll be confirming address changes with the parents via telephone I think.

PhilNeal Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Here's a link SIMS Registration Suite | capita-independent.co.uk 1
