SouthamCollege Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Our students have begun renaming the default playback device (Speakers) to different names. They do this by right clicking on the audio icon in the task bar- selecting Playback devices - right clicking on the device (Speakers) and selecting Properties and then renaming it from there. How can I prevent this without stopping access to the volume altogether? any advice would be appreciated.
6Foot2 Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Our network does not allow them access to the speaker icon in the Taskbar notification area. They can change volume using an icon we provide in their Start Menu. Path: C:\Windows\System32\SndVol.exe 1

Phrygian Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 You can remove the icon altogether with a GPO. User Config > Policies > Admin Templates > Start Menu & Taskbar > Remove the Volume Control Icon.
