Dave, Thanks for the reply - have tried this but it still give access to the sound device properties if students click on the speaker/device icon.

Our students have begun renaming the default playback device (Speakers) to different names. They do this by right clicking on the audio icon in the task bar- selecting Playback devices - right clicking on the device (Speakers) and selecting Properties and then renaming it from there. How can I prevent this without stopping access to the volume altogether? any advice would be appreciated.
