XP Update Error 0x8024402F

Clean install of SP3, cannot update get above error, had this before but cannot find fix on here for it.

 

Any ideas, been at this for a few hours now!

Cleaned out software distribution in the windows folder? It may be m$ trying to get you to upgrade.

Done that first step I had on my list.

 

Have had this issue before but cannot remember what I did to fix it, I know it was something so simple but never made note of it.

have you updated the windows update agent?

 

Going to windowsupdate.microsoft.com should do it for you, but in some cases i had to use the links on the following page to upgrade the agent (How to Install the Windows Update Agent on Client Computers), then visit windowsupdate.microsoft.com and let it do what it needs to do.

 

edit - this page suggests that this is caused by the .net framework 4 on Win7. If you have it installed, try removing it and see what happens.

Have tried that. No .net on it at the moment,. Even tried installing it and uninstalling it manually to see if it fixed it.

 

Not had the machine on today but will fire it up a bit later and give it ago again.

Is the CPU by any chance going to 100% aswell?

 

If so, you need to install the latest cumulative security update for whatever version of Internet Explorer you have installed. This will be IE6, IE7, or IE8 (if you're doing a fresh install of Windows XP it will naturally be IE6). This will upgrade the various components of your Internet Explorer installation. Thereafter Windows Update will perform as it should.

Cheers for that.

 

CPU hardly doing any work.

 

I did have IE8 installed, removed this and put it back to IE6 and let Windows automatically update adn its pulled a few down, I suspect once these are done I will be able to do the rest from the update site.

There's a ms fix it that resets windows update.

I've done that one with no joy.

 

Currently process 77 update via automatic update, going to see if that fixes it.
