Western Digital Drive in USB 3 Icy Box Dock Host Controller Crashing

I have a strange one. I have Windows 8.1 Pro installed and a USB 3 Icy Box SATA Dock with a Western Digital 2TB drive in it. When I copy files to it the drive disappears and comes back. After a few of those occurrences the ASMedia USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 0096 (Microsoft) has to be disabled and re-enabled to get the disk back online.

 

In the system event log I get the following entries:

 

Event ID 140

Source Ntfs (Microsoft-Windows-Ntfs)The system failed to flush data to the transaction log. Corruption may occur in VolumeId: F:, DeviceName: \Device\HarddiskVolume316.

(A device which does not exist was specified.)

 

Event ID 51

Source disk

An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk2\DR315 during a paging operation.

 

Anyone got any bright ideas?

Happens with my Buffalo Drive Station.

 

It's an 8.1 driver error with ASmedia USB 3 controllers. No known fix at the moment. For a time had a script silently write and delete a file to the drive every 5 minutes to stop it from sleeping and loosing connection.

 

In the end I got round to making a home server and sharing it!!

Its odd because I don't have the disconnect over time issue. The drive goes to sleep but it always comes back. Mine disappears only if lots of little files are written to it. I can right large files to it all day but not small ones. Very odd. I've had a hunt around the net but cannot find anyone with the same issue so I figure I am using a rare combination of SATA Dock, Hard Disks and OS. Oh well, I will put up with it until a miracle happens and the driver is updated. Thanks for answering Trapper
