Frut02 Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Hi all, I have been getting this error on a server for some time now when trying to backup using veeam, Creating snapshot CreateSnapshot failed, vmRef "1632", timeout "1800000", snName "VEEAM BACKUP TEMPORARY SNAPSHOT", snDescription "Please do not delete this snapshot. It is being used by Veeam Backup.", memory "False", quiesce "True" A snapshot operation cannot be performed. I had it on 1 server and now it seems to be happening on 2 more. Size doesn't seem to have changed and i have plenty of free space. any ideas? I googled it but it just said that veeam couldn't support backups of more that 2TB which none of these are, i think the biggest is 290GB Many Thanks Nick
kmount Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Which version of Veeam? Which version of vCenter & ESXi? The servers you are backing up, do they have any other snapshots? Can you create snapshots yourself on this particular server? (to see whether Veeam is a victim)
Frut02 Posted November 8, 2013 Author Posted November 8, 2013 V 4 of vcenter- need to upgrade, veeam v4.1 When creating a backup in vcenter i get Create virtual machine snapshot Clickview File is larger than the maximum size supported by datastore ' Starting to think its more to do with vmware. i have enough space on the data store. Nick
kmount Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Hi Nick, It's most definitely a problem with VMware if you can't even take a snapshot from the vSphere client. Are you using any RDMs? VMware KB: Creating a snapshot for a virtual machine fails with the error: File is larger than maximum file size supported VMware KB: Storage vMotion or cloning a virtual machine fails with the error: File is larger than the maximum size supported by datastore What type of datastore are you using? NFS or VMFS? (& how big is it?)
