How can I stop this infinite loop to our moodle site?

Hi All,

Currently I am creating anew moodle for our school and I currently have set Redirect to point to the public facing IP address. However when the browser hits that address it converts to the publice IP address then moodle complains that it will only accept connections to moodle.prentonhighschool.co.uk. So I set moodle to carry on anyway from there so it then tries to go to moodle.prentonhighschool.co.uk but, yes you guessed it, it converts back to the ip address and I'm stuck in a loop!

 

Can anyone suggest how I can get round this?

I need to clarify a bit here I think.

The subdomain settings in my 1and1 control panel are somehow to blame for this rather than the moodle settings.

 

I currently have the subdomain forwarding to the public IP address as a http redirect but no idea what else I could do?

Perhaps put your subdomain in as an A record rather than a redirect? Or have a missed something?

I don't have that option as far as I can tell with 1and1 I can either forward or use a home directory?

Ah... 1 & 1... you probably pay them purely for domain? Doesn't allow for A records etc. You need to find a DNS provider that you can setup A records and the like on (most LAs do this for the la.sch.uk domains, and should be happy to add another domain to their NS), then in 1 & 1 control panel, you just tell it to use your NS servers and specify them as required (once set up).

I don't know of what can and can't be done on 1&1. But it sounds like you might need to move your DNS to somewhere more useful.

In that case, you will need to add either a A or CNAME record with a new hosting provider pointing back to 1 & 1. Unfortunately their DNS is somewhat past crap.

Rackspace offer free DNS management and their control panel is good to use.
