VMware workstation Linux Host win7 guest slow

Hi

 

I have a windows 7 guest running on a linux mint 14 host (my desktop) the vm is for the windows stuff i can't live without.

 

vm seems quite sluggish occasionally, it is running on spindles compared to the linux which is running of SSD, but i can't help feeling some tweeking would help. i have changed the SCSI controller to PVSCSI which has helped but.

 

one example i just right clicked on a hyperlink in an outlook email and it hung for long enough for me to type the beginning of this post until here.

 

any top tips for performance tuning. either inside the guest or vmware workstation.

 

all the aero theme is turned off inside the guest and the effects turned off (best performance in system settings)
