Is there a way to send to different audio sounds to two different outputs

for example if I am playing a song through itunes can I listen to that on my headphones while playing a song in windows media player through USB speakers that I hav plugged in?

I believe it's possible (though not tried it myself) - after all, there are many DJ programs that give this ability to all allow you to sync up the next mix on headphones while playing the main mix.
