baronne Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Hi folks, Any good recommendations for network monitoring software, free or commercial? cheers Baronne
Dos_Box Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 The Dude http://www.mikrotik.com/thedude.php Nice and free and easy to use.
localzuk Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 I use nagios and cacti. You can hook the prior into whatever notification system you want really, such as SMS messaging, email, jabber messaging etc... They are free and take minimal work to set up IMO. There are some instructions around on the forums which go into good detail on how to set up nagios.
Ric_ Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 See the wiki for a howto on Nagios.... Geoff should be sticking the Cacti howto up at some point too. See http://edugeekwiki.rm-charlton.net/index.php/Nagios
baronne Posted September 20, 2007 Author Posted September 20, 2007 looks good! I'll get me a ubuntu server setup soonish so we can test this baby out! cheers!
TechMonkey Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Restricted to servers but we have just found spot light (http://www.quest.com/spotlight-on-windows/) from the people that made Big Brother. graphs everything you could possibly think of and a lot you never even knew. Everything can be drilled down into even more information and graphs. Very graphical and very pretty. No client needed either.
