Mac OS Terminal Services

Our Art Department are looking at getting some Apple Macs to use with Photoshop installed to replace the current Windows 7 machines running Photoshop (due to 'running too slow and crashing'). I'm wondering if there is a way of running a terminal server with Mac OS installed so that our machines can connect to the TS and run Macs version of Photoshop to avoid the cost of the shiny toys.

It is possible to create a OSX Terminal Server see Mac Remote Desktop Services - Mac Terminal Server & Services - Virtualization Solutions for OS X - Mac Remote Desktop - Load Balancer

and It is possible to run OSX on VMWare ESX, so you could create a VDI environment.

 

but OSX is only licenced to run on apple hardware so I doubt you would be officially licenced.

So it would probably be cheaper to upgrade/replacement the crashing PCS.

If the hardware for the current PC's is quite reasonable ie recent then may just need wiping / re-imaging / latest drivers etc and see if that helps at all, may just be due to being used frequently , profiles on machines ( if you use locally stored profiles / cached etc ) , Windows may have also gotten a bit bloated from all the installations / windows updates etc

The machines are a reasonably good spec, and they have been re-imaged not long ago and profiles are not locally stored. The machines themselves don't run slow, it's the program Photoshop. They are convinced that Photoshop is running slow and crashing. Is there a known problem with Photoshop on Windows? I'm starting to believe that they will come up with any rubbish just to get pretty, shiny new toys.

We have photoshop CS6 running on windows 7 and it seems to work ok. i.e. we don't have any user complaints.

we have adobe cs6 running on both mac and pc, more issues with the macs than the pcs to be honest...

 

our art department had mac lust, we showed them the costs of how they could afford twice as many decent pcs and warranty for 3 years or half the amount of macs with a 1 yr warranty.

 

they are buying pcs.

I think with Macs leasing is the only option, otherwise they need to be kept forever to justify the expense of buying them in the first place.
