Hi all,

 

Odd request but, does anyone know anywhere where I can get images of broken OS's. I read on a blog a guy bought broken servers off eBay and fixed them so he could learn. I thought this was a great idea and was hoping I'd find a site which had some broken windows/Linux images but no luck so far. Has anyone come acess a site likethis?

By broken images, what do you mean exactly? Are you just looking for old OSs like Windows 2000 Server?

Not sure what you mean by "broken" here.

 

Microsoft have older operating systems available to download to MSDN subscribers and a lot of the larger Linux distros keep at least some older versions around on their own websites in my experience.

I think he means where a machine stopped working due to an OS fault and got replaced rather than fixed. Sounds like masochism to me

perhaps the company had gone bust and it was the repo men selling it?

The server may still contain sensitive information and any OS licences won't be transferrable anyway. Data protection nightmare!

 

Could just install Linux, save a snapshot then sabotage it. Hours of fixing fun!
