[ms office - 2010] Word 2010 Table insert problems

I have recently had it come to my attention that there is a problem when trying to insert a table in word.

you can insert a table fine using the template grid but if you click on the 'Insert table" button it wont allow you to make a table no matter how big or small and just comes up with this error.
