Hi

 

This is going to sound like pretty stupid question , i've just started working in a primary school and have very little experience using servers.

 

I'm running server 2003 with LNM installed on it.

 

Basically when students log in to a machine, there are program shortcuts all over the desktop, I've tried deleteting them but the next time a student logs in they re-appear on the desktop. Can anyone help?

 

Is this a group policy issue?

I've not used LNM but if the desktop is re-directed or from a mandatory profile, you will need to delete the shortcuts from the share where they are located. Did that make sense?

I'm not sure if there is a share or not. But I'll have to look into it.

The desktop icons aren't being controlled by LNM. As far as I know (we use it too), LNM can't do that kind of thing. As Ric said, it is likely to be an issue with mandatory profile and using a share for desktop and start menu shortcuts. See if there is a folder called User Common Folders; you may have your server drive partitioned and the D: drive will have this sort of share on. Or do a search on the server for a folder called Start Menus. You will probably find there is one for pupils (may be called Students) and one for teachers, at least.
