timbo343 Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 So who will be buying one then? Cute Cube 3D printer hits the high street at Currys and PC World | CNET UK
LosOjos Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Not for £1,200! I know that's fairly cheap as 3D printers go, but I'll wait a few years until they drop below £500 before I consider getting one...
Stark Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 I can see potential in them for things like DT, but that price is offputting though
broc Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 This looks like far more fun; a kit to build a 3D printer for £700 Velleman K8200 3D Printer Kit : Printers : Maplin Electronics
plexer Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 The high purchase cost has to fund the tech support they will have to provide to consumers, the cost of build material is ridiculous as well. Ben
pcstru Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 So who will be buying one then? I foresee consumer disappointment. My experience of low end 3d printers is they require frequent adjustment and maintenance. Not for £1,200! I know that's fairly cheap as 3D printers go, but I'll wait a few years until they drop below £500 before I consider getting one... A Mr Nophead does complete Mendel 90 kits for £500. It's a good design and the kit is extremely well thought out and documented. The process of doing the build will set you in good stead when something goes wrong. You can do it cheaper but not by massive amounts.
