What's the recommended upgrade path these days for a Sims Server?

Ours is currently 2003 R2 with SQL server 2008. Its on its last legs and I would like to virtualize it like our other servers.

Also do capita do managed installs? I've done a Sims server migration before and it took ages so might be worth paying someone to do it this time.

If you're supported by Capita then have a look at the SIMS System Requirements Document and the SIMS technical Roadmap on Capita's site, Windows Server and SQL 2012 and Windows 8 are now supported.

If you're LA supported then ask them what they support.

I like SQL 2012 but haven't upgraded SIMS to it yet.

If you're supported I'd build a virtual server 2012 with SQL 2008, and move your data over. Don't make it live then do the upgrade to sql 2012.

If you have the time, virtuals are easy to play with. A managed install will cost a bomb, and no guarantee it's much quicker. LAs are often cheaper than Capita.
