DSapseid Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Having a mental first day back and cant remember which dns record to set so an external website points to an internal ip address internally for exchange. ie our mail server externally is mail.schoolname.org and internally its servername.schoolinitials.local can someone tell me which dns record i need to create to route users to the exchange server when using our system here, works ok as it is on pc's but ios has a funny fit trying to go out onto the internet and back in again - probably the lea line having a hissy fit! Thanks and now back to run round the school fixing projectors that have mysteriously broken over the holidays!
john Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 You need to have a DNS zone for schoolname.org and have an enty for mail.schoolname.org in that pointing to the internal IP of your server.
DSapseid Posted September 5, 2013 Author Posted September 5, 2013 Lovely thanks, i need a holiday after the last 2 inset days and today first day back!
kmount Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 You may just want to make the zone for the whole dns record (to avoid it breaking other records on that domain or you could add all of the other records too) Redirecting name resolution of a single host for an external DNS zone | FailSys
