It is not cold up here! Admittedly we are having our annual 'Break out the jumpers' festival next week, but it's still quite mild

You're getting soft John! Wait til London gets it's annual 5mm of snow and everything grinds to a halt, then you'll be remembering just what winter weather is really like in the Dales!

The center very rarely gets any snow, but as 90% of the daily population of the centre comes from the outskirts.. where it DOES snow.

and since 5mm of snow is enough for most "modern" rail networks to just roll over and give up!

It is pretty much a moot point

They have gotten better at handling snow though. It's a yearly occurance so everyone is tooled up and prepared to avoid more bad press from clogged roads and rails.

 

Plus I think there are plans to convert the three rail corridors in the south to overhead power which helps with ice-related breakdowns.
