[sims] Install permissions...? SIMS S:\ drive.

Hi All,

 

After moving the SIMS installation, SQL and all to our 2008 server from our 2003 server (thanks to EDUGEEK members), I have now come to install my first workstation.

 

I have mapped an S:\ drive and navigated to simsinst.exe and run it....

 

Firstly it gave me a error that it could not write to the S:\SIMS folder, but I clicked again anyway and it installed and upgraded to Summer realease.

 

Then I tried to open SIMS and it asked me for the connect.ini which I pointed to the S:\SIMS drive as usual and clicked OK....

 

Nothing happened!

 

Can anyone shed some light on what might be the issue?

 

When I copied the SIMS folder over to the new server, I'm not sure I looked at sharing/permissions of the folder, could that be the issue?

 

The folder itself is named D:\SIMSROOT and is shared (network path is \\SERVER\Sims$) NTFS share (advanced sharing) is Sims$, permission Everyone - Full Control.

 

Security is Authenticated Users and Users everything but Full Control.

 

I can't even see what the permissions were on the old server as I have taken that share off...

You need to right click on SIMS .net and select run as administrator

 

The first time you run SIMS .net you need to make it run as local admin or it won't create the connect.ini.

I logged off the user and logged on as admin to do the installation again.
