Wireless cycle computers

I've just been playing with mine and marked up the speed for each of my prime gears for a cadence of 90rpm. I just tried it out up the road and when I got to a particular spot, the speedo maxed out for 100m or so. It did exactly the same coming back. Where it happened I was only a mile or so from the Radio 4 transmitter pumping out 500KW of RF but I've often ridden past the masts with no ill effect. I'm thinking it must be RF that's causing it, there's no phone masts in the area.

I fancy getting one of these for my road bike and thought like the wireless version sounded like quite a nifty feature. Is there maybe an option to change the frequency that the computer uses for communicating with the sensor?

 

On a slight aside does anyone have any specific models they're recommend (or anything that I should avoid)?

On my way to school I cycle past the Brookmans park transmitting station. (Road runs right next to the masts) My cycle computer goes nuts when I cycle past and the interference affects my iPod and my headphones start playing Talksport. I am looking for some better shielded headphones (does anyone know of any). The only upside is that I don't need a radio! Edited August 26, 2013 by hawc

Seems like the same problem @hawc We have all sorts of problems with phones and audio equipment picking up interference. I'm tempted to change to a wired computer.

I use the below, very easy to use and set up never had any issues and no wires to mess around with. Comes with 2 mounts also can use on two bikes. Has software to hook it up and gives you really detailed notes on your ride, can also get useful info from the screen as well.

90% of bike computers use the same innards, some with features enabled that others don't have.

 

mine is a RSP one.

 

I also use GPS mapmyride to log my journey.

Yep I use the Garmin 200 as well, great device!
