I'd love to see something like this built! However, I fear that the prices he's assigned to it are far too low. He hasn't taken into account the H&S issues that stand out.

 

However, its a great idea and it could work. They should make a test system - find a bit of desert, build a 20 mile track and see how it goes.

Musk seems to be hinting that he will get involved in a prototype build - which would be good. It does look like a nice proposal - no radical new technology or untested theory, just good old engineering challenges.

 

Not sure I see many H&S issues as such (I mean compared to air transport which involves putting 100's of people in a slim tube with only a couple of engines along with 1000's of pounds of highly flammable fuel and sending the lot up to 30'000ft (who ever thought that could be a good idea!).
