Ubuntu 13.04 doesn't recognize USB hard drives

Hi all,

 

I've Kubuntu 13.04 and have a problem that I can' solve.

 

I've been looking for information and it's quite clear that it's a problem that appears with all distros based on Ubuntu 13.04, but I've not find any solution.

 

Problem is very simple: When I connect a hard drive via USB it's not recognized/automounted. I've try only NTFS partitioned disks, and as I've read, here is the problem (This problem is in 13.04, with 12.10 works ok)

 

Anyone knows how to fix it?

The USB 2.0 DockStation (Sharkoon QuickPort XT) is the JMicron.

 

I've try a 2 terabytes disk MBR in this dockstarion and works ok (correctly recognized and mounted), the problem comes with 3 tb disks using GPT system and the JMicron USB 2.0 dockstation. The command sudo fdisk -l /dev/sdb returns this:

Size is wrongly recognized as 801,6 gb instead of the 3000gb.

 

I have to say that using a USB 3.0 dockstation there is no problem, 3tb gpt is mounted ok no matter if I connect to USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 connector:

As you can see, here it's correctly recognized as 3000gb, so the problem comes with USB 2.0 dock station and 3tb gpt disk, in both usb 3.0 and 2.0 connectors.

 

The problem is not caused by the dock station since in Widows 7 works ok, it looks like some kind of incompatibility of Linux and jmicron dock station.

 

What can I do?

Very interesting issue, I'd recommend you open a bug with Ubuntu and see what happens.

 

As you say, it looks like a compatibility issue between the jmicron dock station and the OS. (out of interest, as you say it works fine on an earlier Ubuntu it sounds like a regression of sorts so should be worth fixing)

Sincerely.. at this point I'm not 100% sure if it worked with kubuntu 12.10, perhaps I tryed 2 tb disks or I tried with the other dockstation, the USB 3.0 one that works ok now.

 

¿does it change something? Could you reccommend me any other thing?

 

How can I open the but with Ubuntu... sorry, I'm quite new on linux and don't know how to do this.

 

I've read about Intel intel rapid storage technology drivers or something like this, but I've found it to download only for windows, not linux....

Ah, I would double check in 12.10 first before doing anything else.

I've try Windows 7 Professional x64 and works ok and disk is recognized very fast.

 

Then I've made a new installation of kubuntu 12.10 (I was using 13.04) and problem is again here, so it looks that there is a problem with the driver that Linux has included for this JMicron chip (the one that dockstation have).

 

¿Any idea?

search the venfor id 152d:2336 on google and there's all sorts..

I saw that thread before but if I'm not wrong there is no solution to the problem on it, am I wrong??

 

Since with windows it works ok, it's clear that some kind of driver update could solve this.... is there any way to update the driver that linux uses to manage this jmicron SATA-->USB chip or something like this???

 

(I'm not sure if i'm explaning ok...)
