JoeBloggs Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 A friend is looking at the following exams MCSA: Windows Server 2008 Exam 70-640 Exam 70-642 Exam 70-646 MCSA : Windows 7 Exam 70-680 Exam 70-685 Any suggestions on books for these? Also any online learning and/or practice tests? Thanks.

CBT nuggets...Worthwhile and widely available. Ms press books... Ebay, Ebooks. Dry but contain pertinent facts that will come up in the exam. Sit the student exams, if your faculty your entitled too, they're about £50.
free780 Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Im doing 70-786 its an option for mcsa (sounds like a virus) using the official ms book. Its quite out of date feels very 2010. Does anybody know if you get tested on whats current or what was true when the exam was started?
sted Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 70-680 read and regurgitate the book 70-686 books terrible it misses stuff out thats on the exam i blame it for failing. At this point i wouldn't do any of the above do the win8 equivalent it will be retired later
strawberry Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 The content of the exam does get updated , especially after a minor release sp . The book is super dry, test out or cbt nuggets will be more enjoyable but you really need to do 2 of them to have a decent knowledge.
ChrisH Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 You need to read the requirements for each exam on the MS website, don't just use one source and expect that to cover everything as it never does. You will need to hit the interwebs for the rest of the stuff your material doesn't cover.
free780 Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I found the exam for 70-686 had stuff that wasn't in the book. I passed thankfully. I don't think Windows 8 will take off in organisations, so won't be investing any training time in it. Its kinda like learning how to deploy vista or windows me.

strawberry Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I'd go for testout rather than cbt in terms of cost. Testout is interactive , cheaper and an outright purchase.
