Sam_Brown Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Rebuilding all our machines over the summer so deploying the latest software and updates for everything. Our old Smart Board software just allowed us to draw on top of everything. This was easy to use and pretty much pick up and play so an idiot could fathom it out. Since using the new version it comes with something called Smart INK which wants to open up drawing areas all over the place whenever you use the pens. I have managed to turn the transparency down to 25% but it's still intrusive and isn't as friendly to use as before. Is it possible to just have the Smart Boards be pick a pen up and it draws on the screen? Or is Smart INK the way it's done these days?
sidewinder Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 I'd also like to know this. Our installs really need to be updated but I'm loathe to do it for the reason you mention. Also the unsupported message with 5 series boards is annoying....they seem to work but presumably not as we'll as newer ones?
fredbayker Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 AFAIK smart ink is the way to go. You can actually uninstall the smart ink component from control panel. However I have found that you can't get the pens to work without it. Also according to some, the smart ink takes up a lot of resources on the client machine.
free780 Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Its probably an msi as the smart installer installs quite a few msi's l. A bit of orca could probabpy not install it. It may run as a service which can be disabled via gpo.

It may run as a service which can be disabled via gpo. You can disable it but unfortunately the pens stop working... Either put up with it or revert to an older version I guess...
ass17 Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 You only need to run smart ink to draw on software that isn't notebook. Like all new things these days they have built smart notebook to run comfortably on core2duo or above processors. Won't be long before software on PCs will force us to upgrade them more frequently.
