Backups - ARRRGGGHHH

Hi folks,

 

I currently use Cobian to backup my roaming profiles folder. Every Monday is Full back up day, every other day we have Incrementals.

 

A user has deleted a file this morning, and a backup had taken place yesterday. I thought that this would be a simple browse to the backups folder and have a look at the profile from yesterday and recover the file, but oh no no no. Cobian seems to of only backed up about 3 user folders out of 20 odd. And thats a Full Backup. So the incrementals folders have nothing in them!!

 

This was working before and now it has stopped for some unknown reason.

 

I think it's the .V2 folder thats messing eveything up. In the backup settings I have set the profiles folder on the server to be backed up and everything in it.

 

Mine seems to be not working, what does everyone else do for this kind of backup ??

What are they storing in the profile folders that's needed? should be in their home folder?

I have the profiles redirected, the homes folers are on the server and are included in the backups. Nothing (supposed) to be stored on the local machine.

 

Quite scared actually - drive C of my DC says it has 216 MB free. Good job that isnt the drive for the profiles.

My DC was originally migrated from an old VM server to the new IBM server, the old Dell had 80 GB space so I only assigned 40 to this one and have now migrated it to a much bigger server - I dont have the option to extend the drive on right click.. anyone know how to do it ?

If your DC is server 2008 R2 i can recommend the built in backup utility.

 

Cant see why anyone would want anything else unless you want mliple schedules.

There are a lot of reasons not to use the built in windows backup
