Hi

I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a decent microphone that I can mount to a podium. It has to have a good range as when people use the one we have now, they tend to walk away from the podium while they are talking and you cant hear them anymore.

I've tried telling them to stand still but it's in one ear and out the other.

Cheers

Urm - if they don't stand within it's pick up zone then it wont work... and you should have as narrow/small as possible pick up zone to avoid background noise and feedback issues. You cannot bend the laws of physics... Tell them to stand still or get a radio mic... anyway - this is what I put on podiums for installs and conference work. C747 V11 | Broadcast Microphones | AKG

You can't really beat the Shure SM58 BETA really, or just go for the standard SM58 if you want to save some cash.

If you want something smaller why not looking into a mic to clip onto the staff member's lapel?

SM58 is hypercardiod and designed for close-micing. It is far from ideal in the OPs position.

The 747 is a nice mic, but unless they have really upped their game on the RFI screening, it is dreadful in the presence of a hand-shaking mobile. If you can be sure your speakers have left their phones elsewhere, it sounds great.
