Flashing Purple patch on screen epson projector

Hello,

 

We have recently had someone bring in a projector (epson emp-x5) that has had a bulb put in it about a year ago. I have cleaned the dust out.

 

It however, shows a flashing purple patch on the screen when it is on a light background (such as a word document). Is there anyone that could have a solution for this?

might sound simple but it could be the cable, we had a similar issue, changed to a higher grade cable and it was fine. Then saying that we have also had a projector with a yellow splash that turned out to be the unit.

I'm thinking @Little-Miss had something to do with it.

We have now cleaned the projector, the purple patch has gone. However, it now overheats and the lamp warning light comes on- this is a different problem. Any ideas?
