2008 R2 Student profile Tips

I thought I would start a thread for all the tips I've learnt with windows 7 + Windows Server 2008 R2

 

We recently upgraded from 2003 server and needed to change a few things for our student logins:

 

Disable offline files Login script

sc stop CscService

sc config CscService start= disabled

 

Mute sound on login Login script + 3rd party program NirCmd - Windows command line tool

nircmd.exe mutesysvolume 1

 

Redirect Favourites Group policy setting

Windows settings >> Folder redirection >> Favourites

Select "create a folder for each user under route path"

Untick "grant user exclusive rights"

Tick "move contents to the new location"

 

Standardise background with user stats login script + 3rd party program BgInfo

bginfo.exe choolPupil.bgi /timer:0 /silent /nolicprompt
