Tammie Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Hello all I am fairly new to windows server administration, and I want to be able to check a pupil's internet history remotely. Is there any way I can see this on the server? Many thanks!
AngryTechnician Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 There won't be anything on the Windows server itself, but you could give this tool a go and point it at the correct folder on a workstation over the network. You will need to know which workstation the pupil was using though. IE HistoryView: Freeware Internet Explorer History Viewer If your school use a proxy to access the Internet, that should have a reporting tool too (and frankly the school is on this ice if they aren't using a proxy). 2
Gaz Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Do you have any filtering software that logs their sites visited? That would have been my first port of call. That looks like a nice application that AngryTechnician posted though, I might give that a try, even though we have Impero and Smoothwall that log sites visited. 1
ADMaster Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Same as above, but this one will also look at firefox chrome etc. I like to map a drive to \\comp\c$\users or \\comp\c$\users\username Then I just point the tool at that drive. BrowsingHistoryView - View browsing history of your Web browsers 2
rad Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I log onto the pc they used using their account. So much easier. I am then out of the office when said student is next in an ICT room and has "forgotten" his password. They never know! 1
Tammie Posted June 27, 2013 Author Posted June 27, 2013 Thank you all for your replies, it is appreciated! Angry - I have tried IE HistoryView but I don't think I'm doing it right. Wherever I put the file, I just get the history of the account I'm signed in as. I tried putting it in a student's folder, but because I was logged in as me it just gave me my history. Do you know where I am going wrong? Gaz - that is a good idea. Our filtering is provided by SWGfL, so I'll ask them if it's possible. Impero looks very good, not sure we have money for that though! We had a new server recently... hence I'm here asking the questions! It might just be simplest to log on to the last pc they used, although I'm not always in the room when they log on, so I can't guarantee where they were. 1
