what is this for? [picture]

Hi all, a friend of mine has just taken on an office and wondered if we should rip this out.

 

I notice one end is BNC and the other??? some kind of square terminal.

 

could this be used for an old type of terminal computer system?

 

The only use I can think of is if he wanted to use the connectors for a CCTV system.

Have you traced any of the connections to check it is dead / not used?

 

We are suspecting its some form of terminal / main frame system but always worth checking as you never know!

Hi john,

 

they are all dead.

Each other room has 1 or 2 of them in with number, ( like you would find with cat5 cabling going back to a patch panel).

just interesting really, wonder how long this has been there.

the top half is early token ring, if that helps any.

thanks Simon, I have heard of token ring before but never seen it.

About the only "fun" thing you can do with those now is pull the adaptors off and notice how they will plug into each other as they are hermaphroditic
