page faults

Hello all,

 

ive had complaints today of a slow terminal server I checked in performance and page faults are varying between 35 and hundred but mostly staying around 60-70

 

I thought it maybe the virtual memory, at the moment the server has 4 GB and a page file of 4096.

 

It says recommended page file of 5374mb

 

Anyone any ideas how to stop the page faults??

You can't stop page faults - it's how Windows gets stuff into memory which isn't already there! The numbers don't sound bad, though. http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/552aeaad-c8c9-45a8-b536-17bde655f7cb1033.mspx?mfr=true has details of what the counter really means but on a terminal server it's likely that you are going to have lots of page faults - lots of users doing different things means you can't keep everything in RAM so it has to be fetched from disk.

i ran a memory test thingy last night which brought back no errors so at least thats something.

 

i will run more performance logs today to see what shows

 

how do i find out how much kernal space is free?
