Bit of an odd one here...

 

 

We have Sky multi room (no+) so it uses two wires from dish one to each box. As I understand it the connection on sky dish has 4 ports question is what type of port is it (save me getting the ladder out).

 

As we are going to move the box to another room but going to leave old wire in place just unused (in case wish to move back) so we are just going to add another wire into room.

 

Obviously if we ever go down sky plus route we will disconnected the unused old wire.

 

Does all that make sense anything got to look out for...

It's called an 'LNB' cable. It needs to have 'Type F' connectors on the end. You can get 'Quad' ones on eBay.

Just had sky+ installed at home, and in case you didn't know, the sky+ box requires a different cable to the dish, and the dish itself uses a different unit (apologies for not knowing the correct name) which gathers the signal.

The unit on your dish was replaced due to you have old single units as we have multiroom we should already have quad unit (but i am going up there to check)

 

As understand it uses same cable they just a second one in for the second channel... aka old cable for channel 1 and new cable for channel 2.

 

But then might be wrong hence why i am asking before I start..

If you have Sky+ you have 2 connections to the box, this is what allows you to record one channel (input 1) and watch another channel (input 2).

 

As you do not have Sky+, just two standard sky boxes, you have one connection to each box.

 

If you were to migrate to Sky+ you would need 2 cables PER BOX.

 

I was informed of this when i had a problem with my Sky+ that stopped me watching another channel when i recorded one, basically the 2nd input cable was damaged, and when recording a channel, it switched to input-2 to allow my viewing of another channel, but i had a "no sattelite signal is being recieved" message, and could only watch the channel i was recording.

That was my understanding at moment we just want to move the box to new room but leave old cable plugged in so that if we choose to move back again then we can.

 

Main thing if we get sky+ we will just disconnect one of the cables so enough room on the quad unit.
