FMS Prob!

Hi guys!

 

Hope this is the right place to post about this problem!

 

We have a problem with our FMS Modules. They chuck up this problem:

UNHANDLED EXCEPTION IN SIMS FMS MODULE

General SQL Error.

(Sybase)(OBDC Driver)Unable to Connect to database sever: unable to start database engine

 

It was working ok last week..and this happens on every machine...? Does anyone have any ideas?

Have you made sure the sqlanywhere service is running on the server?

Start > Run > DBSVMN50 and make sure its running

 

Is the ODB path correct on the workstations?

Start > Run > ODBCAD32 > SYSTEMDSN configure the SIMS32 dsn and make sure that the field for database file is pointing to the SIMS.DB file as it appears on the server not the workstation

Hi there DreddMetal!

 

Thanks for getting back to me so quick. Have checked that the server is running...Thats fine.

 

Have also Checked the database file is pointing to the SIMS.DB...which it is.

 

Though that has confused us as on the server it points to D:\sims\sql\sims.db

On the client it points to the same path d:\sims e.t.c But on the client machine the D drive is the CD ROM Drive does that matter? Or is it just mirroring what the server has for its path when it connects so to speak?

Have you tried stopping and starting the sqlanywhere service? I know it shouldn't make a difference if its already running but you never know.

 

As for the database file directory on the workstations i've never understood it myself, but if its anything other than what it is on the server it throws a wobbly.

As mentioned above restart the service on the server and make sure it runs sucessfully.

 

This happened when I moved my sims server to a different vlan to the clients. It uses a broadcast to find the server. Has the server been moved?

 

You can also try adding the host address on one of the machines

 

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\SIMS32

 

My start key looks like this:

 

c:\progra~1\sqlany\win32\dbclient.exe -ta 600 -x TCPIP{HOST=10.0.6.3}
