russdev Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 ok i know we have joked about it else where but does anyone over one day in summer hols want to meetup for drink or two in first ever edugeek meetup. I suggest somewhere in midlands as it most central place to everbody ok people in scotland sort rules you out (unless you want to make the trip) but looking at memebrship list we have fair number of us either in midlands or bording on the midlands.. Too throw some ideas on places could meet how about somewhere like derby, nottingham (only cause there close to me ) but if anyone else has got any suggestions then thow the on the table So any takers... You could call it personel development and get school to pay for it Russ
MkII Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 Great idea! Count me in My folks live in Leicester so a couple of us could bed down there. Or Birmingham is reachable from here in an our and a half but I couldn't drink [i don't mind tho' really ]
tarquel Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 I'd luv a trip to scotland... Fill out a cheap hotel....set up a lan party & general conference/meeting... cud be fun too ...just an idea. But yeah, i'd like to have a "meet-up" (mark - u drving then? ) Nath.
RobC Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Well, I'm not promising anything, but I will look into the possibility of a future Edugeek meetup/"Schools IT Conference" in Elgin in the future. Wont be this year tho!
russdev Posted June 27, 2005 Author Posted June 27, 2005 ok if meetup in Leicestershire can probably use our ict rooms here.. with number of pubs near by for refreshment.. say probably as appying for new job at anothier school can you see it 'here's my notice can we hold a meetup inthe summer', or 'yes i accept the job can i use your ict room for a meetup' don;t think it would go down well. But if still here suspect i can book it out (just will not tell them about installing of software). Russ

russdev Posted June 30, 2005 Author Posted June 30, 2005 no school won;t pay for anything here but thought it worth a shot for the airfair.... but they said no... have to be real wales and scotland I would not be able to attend just too far to travel.. Anyone been to train to lacanshire how long does it take to travel etc as would be willing if school that way wants to host it would be willing to travel... Russ Russ
Ric_ Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 Anyone been to train to lacanshire how long does it take to travel etc as would be willing if school that way wants to host it would be willing to travel... Train from Leicester to Preston is about 2h30 to 3h with 1/2 stops.
GrumbleDook Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 We can host ... in October half-term if you want ... or spring half-term if October is too short notice. I have several rooms we can use. Corby, Northants ... just round the corner from Rockingham Speedway. What would people fancy ... just a day at the pub? Or actually having some hands on sessions with different machines ... proper workshops looking at some fun things? Or maybe just a lan party (Quake 2 anyone?)
russdev Posted July 22, 2005 Author Posted July 22, 2005 thats sounds good just to confirm when is everybodys half term mine is monday 17th to Friday 21st October 2005... Well i think couple of ways to go about it is for people for vounteer for some subject like for example somone might sya using linux in which case they would have a station or how ever many with linux on and they would be on hand to discuss questions etc then someone else with different station and subject have series of them which people can go around look at etc... Second more strucutred in which have seris of talks plus time in between to 'network'. Both can have lan parties for all you gamers.. I suppose prefered methord for me would be series of talks in morning say each one between half and hour long... and then some kind of lan party plus computer for surfing and genreal networking in early afternoon and then anyone who wants to carry on some drinks in local watering hole... But what people prefer... Russ
