fiza Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Just setting up my first Veeam backup job to backup my Virtual SIMS Server. I got so far in the Veeam wizard but now I am stuck as to what I should be doing in the "Guest Processing" screen. It is asknig me if I want to "enable application-aware image processing". Do I want to do this for my SIMS VM? My next task will be backing up the SAGE Server VM. Will I need to enable it for this too?
Mcshammer_dj Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 That is a process to trigger the backup of an application without the need to shut it down. It uses VSS to complete the task. As to the need it depends on how you manage your sims data, your sims patching and your sims backups. I practise it should allow the backup to run witout needing to shut any services and therefore will allow you to recover sims from the point of backup if you ever need to.

Cache Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 No idea about your Sage server I'm afraid. We have it enabled on our SIMS VM backup as it tends to keep Solus 3 and discover in check with their log files (but maybe there's something else going on there and I haven't picked up on it) and I presume also keeps the SIMS database tidy and consistent at the time of backup should I need to restore the VM. We've also continued with a scheduled dbattach backup so we have that should the worst come about.
Ephelyon Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 I tend to enable it for Windows VMs but set it to 'ignore failure' rather than 'require success' as I want the VM backed up every night anyway, even if the job could've been cleaner. Naturally I disable it completely for Linux VMs.
