[sccm 2012] SCCM SUP Confusion

Hi,

 

So now I've finally managed to get my SCCM server and WSUS server to talk to each other and sync. My WSUS server is sitting as an SUP role on SCCM 2012 and all synced nicely.

 

I'm confused at what to do next. Do I continue pointing my GPOs to the existing WSUS server address, or do I change them to point to my SCCM server? I've also read articles that suggest you shouldn't configure GPOs at all and that SCCM sort of takes care of things. Does this mean that an SCCM client needs to be pushed out to clients first or does it just happen. Once again I'm struggling to find anything conclusive and getting a bit confoosed.

Why are you using WSUS on a separate server? The SCCM client is required on all devices that you wish to push update/applications, but will need to be told about the architecture of your network and also access to AD. I would thoroughly recommend that you use everything from within SCCM as it makes it a lot easier. The intro of ADR's just makes things so much easier.

Remove all your WSUS group policies. The SCCM client will sort out your clients.

Yeah, I think you're right. The main reason to do it was to prove to myself that it could be done, but I'm going to move my WSUS role onto my SCCM server today.
