[sims] User passwords get reset every day

I have a SIMS install where the passwords seem to be getting reset every day. At first I thought it was the backups causing it but if I run the script (which uses dbattach) the passwords remain intact.

 

The other wierd thing is that the sysman password stays the same and all I do to fix it is login as sysman and reset the users password.

 

Anyone know what could be causing this? As far as I know our backup script is the only regular thing talking to sims.

I'd change my backup method for a couple of days - use a maintenance plan in SQL server, for example - because the thing that comes to my mind is the "hey, you detached the database incorrectly and all your passwords are reset" historical known issue for SIMS-based (as opposed to AD-linked) usernames and password.

 

What version of SIMS/dbattach are you using? SQL version? When did it start happening?

I did a sims transfer to a new machine last wednesday and this last week its been happening.

 

I'm using SQL Express 2008 and db attach from the sims spring 2012 release.

 

I use the exact same script and setup in other schools with no problems although I did have the lost passwords issue here when doing the transfer.

 

I've run the script now and its not caused the passwords to be lost

It's as though your master db is being overwritten, every day! Try detaching and then reattaching the DB, which should kind of take a snapshot of the logins as they are, so do it after you've reset a few. If you get any errors they may indicate a cause.

There must be a process that is doing something daily, or a permissions issue so the changes you make are not being saved.
