enabling screen sharing

bought iMac core 2 duo from a school and screen sharing has been partially disabled

 

my other mac can share this screen but this mac (the one from the school) can't 'look in' on my other mac

 

did some research and found that net restore can disable this feature (and something about ARD) I saw in pref>sharing that there is an ARD Public folder which i can't find on computer.

 

 

anyone got any suggestions. I like this feature as i can help my kids and wife even when downstairs in my home office (dungeon)

Which OS is on this? Try system preferences, sharing, remote administration. Tick the box for screen sharing. Make sure you are connecting, when sharing, with the correct username.

I am using OSX 10.7.5 AND when i try to (look in on another machine) use screen sharing the screen just flashes and screen sharing closes. this was a school computer that used remote management and i can (look in on this machine from my other mac) use screen sharing to control this mac. but can't use this one to control another .

 

I've used the sharing prefs. thank you for taking time to respond.

Try this,

 

got to /Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences/ and look for a file by the name of com.apple.alf.plist (this is the firewalls prefernces list) even if you don't have the firewall on it can cause issues with file sharing and screen sharing alike (it was common when i was second line applecare) now just drag the file to the trash and empty the trash then restart the mac and it should be fine.
