Coffee Cup HTML

Anyone know anything about Coffee Cup web site software. One of our teachers has been using it at home and is raving about it and wanting me to set it up in school.

 

Their offer of Free looks great but I was wondering if anyone has any useful feed back before we sign up?

I tried that garbage a few years ago.

1. It is not free. It's $69. Supposedly there's a free version, but the free version I got wouldn't stop nagging me to upgrade.

2. I found it really kludgy - like some cheap software from 1995... Have you ever used ws_ftp from the 90's.

Fine for ftp software - not the best for web editing.

 

I use Dreamweaver CS2 or CS4... Not because it's the best, but it's what I got used-to.

I think adobe is giving away CS2 now.

 

I recently tried "brackets" (Brackets) - it's a lightweight beta (and truly free) from Adobe.

I really liked it, but I didn't do anything that important with it.

 

There are a lot of html editors out there, but they tend to be garbage, or expensive...

 

You may want to try: Netbeans, Amaya or HTML-Kit...

We are still not moving forward on this one. My DT teacher tells me he needs this up and running in some sort of way for the AQA GCSE in ICT set assignment (unit 2) by Christmas and that the sites the students produce will not be live to public. I'm still trying to figure out what other schools use or intend to use MS Expressions perhaps? Microsoft Expression Changes | Microsoft Expression but wouldn't that involve having hosting of some sort or other?

Is this just for generic webdesign? If so any reason you wouldn't want an offline creator like Kompozer etc? Unless there's something specific like PHP etc you want them to do, all the HTML side stuff doesn't need hosting really.

We offer Kompozer (free), Expression (originally part of Dreamspark through our EES license, and now free) and Dreamweaver MX (licensed by one of my predecessors)

 

We also set up linux on an old PC and installed Webmin/Virtualmin so we could offer students internal only webspace, however IT teachers never took up on the webspace.
