Google Chrome User Data Issues

We currently run with roaming profiles for staff with redirected AppData. We have come across an issue recently where staff were finding that their favourites etc were being lost between logins after some searching on google we found that the bookmarks are stored in

 

C:\Users\max\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default in a book marks file

 

We got round this using GPO to redirect this user data folder into their redirected app data but if someone leaves them selves logged in, in their office they then cannot use chrome on another pc because it creates a locked file and then corrupts the data. Which then gives the user a your profile could not be loaded properly. This can be solved by removing the google folder from their appdata.

 

I was wondered whether any one else has this issue? Or if anyone has any ideas?

I think you may be able to deal with this using a script - on log off, copy that folder to a network location. On log on, copy it to the local folder etc...

Sorry for resurrecting an old-ish thread.

 

We have this exact issue... does anyone have a solution for this? We've also noticed on the odd occasion that Chrome will not launch for a user even when they are not logged in on another machine.

 

We've tried setting the user profile path to a mapped drive (not a UNC path) & ${roaming_app_data}.

In the end we stuck with redirecting the folder into the user roaming profile. So that its copied to each machine when they log on.

Do you mean something like this:

 

${roaming_app_data}\Google\Chrome\User Data

 

As this is what we tried to start with but it didn't appear to work.

Set disk cache directory

I know this is an old thread.

 

I have managed to set-up Chrome, setting the user-data to "N:\Google" etc.

 

This works a charm - however if you stay logged in to PC 1 with Chrome open, it crashes on start-up if you use it simultaneously PC 2. Close it on PC 1, opens fine on PC 2.

 

Any thoughts?

 

We could just tell staff to close it before using different PCs, but that may be a faff?

Yeah. If you use a network share for Chrome data, you can't open 2 copies on 2 machines. It just doesn't work.

Our workaround is to instruct staff to log directly into the browser; this will sync any settings and allow us to deploy apps directly. It works at home and on BYOD too so apps and links are consistent so makes support much easier.

I think signing in directly would cause outrage as people "have enough bloomin' passwords to remember" lol.

 

Well, they can either have it on their PC and not have the data roaming, or with it roaming - making sure they close it on 1 PC.

Once they've logged into the PC it will store passwords on their PC profile.
