Replacement HP2524

I am looking at replacing 2 HP2524 switches which have been no problem at all for a 48 port switch with gigports. Am i right in thinking that the HP 1910-48G is still the best out there for a replacement or should i be looking at something else. I plan to trunk together 2 fibre ports to give us 2gb uplink to the core.

Hi Tim,

 

I use HP Networking Switch selector tool to find my switches.

 

We use the same series as you - 2524, 2510-48, etc - and using that selector I would imply the model you're after as a direct upgrade would be 2510G-48 for simply 48 ports, or 2530-48G if you want 52 ports (ie the fibre/gig SFPs).

 

I think when I was looking for our POE models last week (for the project you're aware of) I found that different models such as 19*-* series didn't all have the full management/command set.

 

I don't proclaim to know the technical specs of the different series though, so others may contradict me - just going on what my own research and experience has found.

What kind of load/throughput you planning? The V1910 is a 3com model.

Yup - the CLI is fine although when I turned up to site I looked a little silly as had to lookup the command line reference as it wasn't what i expected.

Personally I would go for something a bit beefier than the 1910 then. Something along the lines of the 2510G-48, 2530-48G, 2810-48G (Layer 2 only)

Yeah, I always set the filters on that Switch Selector to my current model, and make sure it shows up so I've got the right filters (Layer and Managed is the two I never quite know about!) then modify the others such as Port Count so I get a suitable in-place upgrade.

J4858c takes either - we use J4858C for 50/125 OM2, OM3 and 62.5/125.

 

(Well, nothings ever not worked, so I hope I'm right there...?)!
