Fibre switch?

Can anyone please explain to me how does a fibre switch work? We are looking to replace all our fibre converters and was wondering would i be able to do this with a fibre switch?

Usually a fibre switch will be a bare 6-24 port switch that you can plug either SPF (1GB) or SPF+ (10GB) modules into. Works pretty much the same as a RJ45 based switch in all other respects.

Most switches these days will have SFP ports you can plug fibre modules into. Generally you can just buy the relevant transceivers and fibre patch cables and they'd do the job just fine.

How many fibre converters are you trying to replace? And what speed do you want?

Are you using these converters all in one place at your core, for example? So, you have fibre and converters at each end, meaning you have 13 in your server cab and then 13 spread out elsewhere?
