NGFireball Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Hi, We have just had a new ruckus network installed and i am trying to configure it to allow your students to use their mobile devices (phones, laptops) on the network but force them to use the proxy for internet which i dont seem to be able to do. can anyone point me in the right direction please. Thanks
IrritableTech Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 (edited) You need to create a WPAD file which you can then host on your ruckus controller or a web server. I've put some advice on my blog which is linked at the bottom of this post, but in short it's a script which the client can find using DNS or DHCP discovery methods. It works with varying degrees of success depending on which device you use. The only other options are to use a PAC file (which is excatly the same script as a WPAD file, but the client must be told where it is manually) or a transparent proxy. Dragon Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Unfortunately on both Apple and Android devices you have to set the wpad file manually, infact on an Android phone I don't think there is an automatic option.
timbo343 Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 What filtering/gateway are you using? If you have a smoothie you can set up transparent proxies.
NGFireball Posted May 7, 2013 Author Posted May 7, 2013 appliansys cachbox which we where thinking of using
