glennda Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I have a personal plate which I was bought as a present. It has now come where i need to transfer this plate to a another car (which I don't own). When i fill in the forms, does the cars original plate get returned to it, or another one of that year? By the looks I just need to fill out this form - http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/groups/dg_digitalassets/@dg/@en/@motor/documents/digitalasset/dg_069390.pdf ( V317)
glennda Posted May 7, 2013 Author Posted May 7, 2013 The cars original plates will get reassigned. That's great all i need to know!! Cheers
sippo Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Don't forget there is an £80 transfer fee. I am looking at selling mine (L15 TFC). Anyone interested?

Yup I know that - but otherwise i lose the plate as it can't go on my new car. Unless there is anybody with the same name as me there isn't much point in me selling mine!
sippo Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 You can retain it for £105, which means it doesn't need to be assigned to a vehicle.

Yeah but I have a lease car for a few years which i can't transfer it too meaning i need to keep it for 4 years which is just as expensive so its going on another car of the familys which isn't used much
FN-GM Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 The cars original plates will get reassigned. They have stopped doing that (So i am told by swansea) lots of cars had the reg on the Windows and didn't match when you sold the car.

FN-GM Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 So its likely to get the original ones back? Depends on how long they have been off. If they where taken off after a certain date you will get them back. Not sure on the date, but at the very least its been 18 months.
Edu-IT Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I've just done this, the V317 is the correct form. Send it to your local DVLA office rather than Swansea though. There's a search tool on the DVLA site. My original plates were reassigned, and it's been about 2 years since I took them off. 1
