Can i legally allow students access to hate material?

Although it can be quite poisonous it is available to buy in newsagents and so not actually illegal.

IMHO students should be allowed to look at a range of media from the morning star through to the daily mail to be able compare different viewpoints and make their own mind up.

The Daily Mail have a habit of putting unsavoury things on their first page - they had a dead cat on there yesterday. Other times they've had dead bodies.

 

Sometimes they have women who have had wardrobe malfunctions, sometimes pixellated, sometimes not. So, it does lean more towards being blocked than not oftentimes.

It's a fair point. Daily Mail drives me to self harm, slamming my head against a wall at the sheer idiocy.

Personally, I try to make sure news in uncensored. But, that's probably more due to my views that news is important regardless of the source. [important != accurate]

 

In a more general sense, hate speech is sort of a gray area for me because of free speech. I may not agree with the words or sentiment, but they have the right to say it. [Again, this is just my opinion]

 

 

In a school, yeah block it. Hate speech in general, not the Daily Mail... unless you want to, it's your network. I'd only unblock it if there was a need to access it, say for lessons about equality or extremeism where both sides need to be discussed.

 

 

I kind of went off on a tangent... But, PERSONALLY, I would unblock news sites.

Because of the highly dynamic nature of this page and some of the language used on it, sometimes it gets picked up by our dynamic filter and it won't be immediately obvious why.

This case is down to two stories involving suicide, which we try to cover with Self Harm.

Tomorrow it will undoubtedly be something different.

It's something we're continuously working on, though it is tricky to hit a target that not only moves but seems to do the jitterbug.
