Alarm systems

I am looking at getting an upto date alarm system for the house. I have seen the wireless response systems in b and q and seen the better one on ebay for a discounted price.

 

Has anyone had any experiences of these?

 

What would people recommend?

 

In terms of PIRs and Contacts we need 2 door contacts, 2 PIRs to cover the downstairs and would it be worth having window contacts too?

The equivalent Yale is £135 seems reasonable and will alert you by telephone if it sets off:

You can get alarms that take full IP modules, stuff like this DSC PowerSeries Control Panel PC1616 - PC1616 with DSC IP Communicator TL250 - Other Alarm Systems at which point you can moniter sensors, set and unset the alarm, trigger voltage out relays for stuff like opening garage doors and doors that have voltage triggered releases. If you wired it correctly you could even use it to trigger home automation stuff that took a voltage input.

 

It all depends on what you want to do with it.

LOL! I think the phrase "does it make tea for you too" is right for that statement . I just want to make sure it does its job. Im in a house with stone walls and the house is about 120 year old hence why i thought he wireless option would be better.

I have the Yale premium kit with an extra fob and some additional sensors. It seems to work fine, with no wireless issues in an old house with reasonably thick walls between the farthest sensor and the main unit.

Best advice ever is avoid the wireless ones they are junk, always going off as you forgot to change the batterys etc... Alarm cable is simple enough to run and parts are cheap enough so just get the bits and do a proper job
