fairm010 Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 I've inherited a school that has had a lot of DNS issues due to an old server not bring demoted correctly and the roles not being transferred. We want to remove Active Directory & DNS etc and rebuild it so its all correct but the concern is that the server runs SIMS. What would be the effect on SIMS / FMS if we removed all roles from the server and dcpromod it, then rebuilt it? Would SIMS remain intact as its just a database? Thanks for your help. Matt
ConradJones Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 SIMS will be okay, i've moved it between domains before. Personally though I would build a new server/vm and migrate SIMS across to it. You can get the other server setup with a copy of the database, login to it and test it works and then do a final transfer of the database and switch the connect.ini and drive mappings to point to the new server, (don't forget to move the docstorage) 1
fairm010 Posted April 10, 2013 Author Posted April 10, 2013 Thanks Conrad. I bit the bullet today and dcpromo'd the server and re promo'd and made a new domain, testing sims throughout and all is working perfectly. Thanks for your help!
