Been meaning to do this for the last couple of years. Just before I left my old job working in the school, [ just over two years now] - the last job I did was to setup their Weather Station. I had been meaning to do my own but never got round to doing it until today.

I put one on the roof of our school, with a display in Y7. I don't think anyone has so much as looked at it.

Only £100 from Maplin.

I'm using an laptop to get the data. Will sort out getting into mySQL too at some stage.

Nice. I'm a big fan of weather stations. Why don't you 'Pi' it? It'll save you quite a bit on the electric bills and there is an article here on how to connect a Maplin weather station to a Pi: DragonTail Mapping and the Raspberry Pi

with this is there any way to get the data used 'properly'. by this i mean if you live in a small town/village that has no accurate online weather from the met office/bbc/yahoo is there a way of setting your self up as the station? its annoying when i look on my phone and its inaccurate and have thought about doing this at past and present jobs but never really investigated it.

Yes, just use the Cumulus software - this feed is directly from the station in my back yard - http://www.mattmarsh.co.uk

The feeds going to wunderground are being fed from the same software.

Not sure what apps [ if any ] are currently out there for this but I will [ time permitting ] will try to write one just for mine. Only Android though - not paying Apple.....
