edutech4schools Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 I am trying to share a google calendar with a group of work colleagues without luck. I have google apps for ed setup. In the calendar under my user name I have created a new calendar called shared calendar. In contacts I have created a group of users called sharedusers in calendar settings under 'Share with specific people' I have entered my group using [email protected] but in a colleagues calendar my shared calendar does not show. If I go to the 'other calendars' section (still logged in as my colleague) and type in my username (I am the one that created the shared calendar) it says that I do not have access to this calendar. What am I missing.
AngryTechnician Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 I believe that to share a calendar with a group, the group needs to be in Google Groups, not just in regular contacts. This is different to how Google Docs works.
Devontechie Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 When I shared a calendar before, I ended up doing it via adding each person in and not using a group
edutech4schools Posted March 20, 2013 Author Posted March 20, 2013 I will have a go using google groups. Not a big school, but if they want a school shared calendar, adding each person one by one is not a great way to do it.

edutech4schools Posted March 21, 2013 Author Posted March 21, 2013 When creating groups of users in groups should it be done from the admin control area or specifically from the groups app area as a user?
AngryTechnician Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I think you specifically need to use the Google Groups interface.
edutech4schools Posted March 21, 2013 Author Posted March 21, 2013 That is a pain as we have disabled the groups app. Odd that a user can create a group in contacts and that group is available everywhere even sites but not the calendar and the user is required to use a discussion app to create a group for the calendar.
ianniow Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 The way I set it up was to set the school calendar up as a resource and then users can add that to their calendar by pasting the link. This is done from the admin control panel Settings - Calendar- Resources. The resources is aimed at room booking etc. Also from the settings-org settings you can set that all calendars are available to anyone in the domain so that anyone can add anyone else's calendar. Don't know if that helps.
