starscream Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 When I link a GPO to an OU at which point will it be applied? When the computer starts up or when a user logs on? I am deploying software while no one is in school so no one will be logged on. Now I linked a GPO to an OU for a classroom and I rebooted the machines several times but it did not apply. Then I logged onto 2 machines in that room and the software and gpo settings were applied. I then rebooted those machines and the other 2 in that room and the 2 I logged onto previously seem to have applied the GPO and the two I did not log onto have not applied it. Is there a way to have the GPO apply before machine is logged on?
Jackd Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 I think you have to enable "Wait for network at computer startup", its somewhere in Computer Configuration in the GPO
longsword Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 If your installing an application via GPO when the application installs depends upon your specification. If you Publish it will install on first use of an extension based file or when the user selects the app from Start menu or add/remove programs. If you assign it will install at next reboot providing the GPO update period has passed or you have done a gpupdate /force command on the workstation. I generally assign all apps based upon computer rather than do user based Published/advertised apps.
